Bliss had a plan, with pumpkins galore,
Fifteen hundred seeds, maybe more!
Dick sat in the shade, with nothing to do,
While Bliss worked hard, her dreams grew true!
She planted, she watered, she dug in the heat,
But success, my friends, never tasted so sweet!
Bliss had faced many setbacks at the Funny Farm—sabotage, missing seeds, and more—but nothing could keep her down. When her original shipment of pumpkin seeds mysteriously disappeared (we all know who was behind that one—cough Dick cough), she didn’t waste a moment. Bliss did what she always did: turn lemons into pumpkin pie.
She marched right down to the store, bought enough pumpkin seeds to cover three football fields, and decided to plant them herself—by hand! It was hot, backbreaking work, but Bliss, with her ever-cheerful Serena (formerly Petunia) by her side, was ready for the challenge. They had fifteen hundred pumpkins to plant, and they weren’t about to let a lazy yellow jackass stand in their way.
Speaking of the yellow jackass, good old Dick was, of course, lounging under a shady tree while Bliss, Serena, and their trusty sidekick Cuddy toiled under the blazing sun.
As the temperature soared, Bliss and Serena, dressed in overalls and floppy sun hats, were hard at work. They dug, they planted, they watered, and they prayed to the pumpkin gods for a good harvest. Serena, always optimistic, bleated words of encouragement. “This is going to be the best pumpkin patch in the whole world!” she said, her white wool fluffy despite the heat.
Meanwhile, Dick sat sprawled out under a tree, holding a half-eaten apple in one hand and a stick in the other. Occasionally, he’d toss the stick at his feet and shout, “Y’all should use the tractor!”—knowing full well that he had “accidentally” broken the tractor weeks ago. He called out again, his voice dripping with lazy amusement, “You really think all this sweat is worth it? Those pumpkins are gonna shrivel faster than a raisin in the sun!”
Cuddy, wiping sweat from his brow, couldn’t resist firing back. “At least we’re working for something, Dick! When was the last time you did anything that didn’t involve sitting on your backside?”
Dick just snorted, took another bite of his apple, and tossed the core into the field. “We’ll see,” he mumbled, leaning back against the tree, clearly more invested in his afternoon nap than in any potential farm success.
But Bliss didn’t let it bother her. She knew better than to let Dick’s ridiculous comments get under her skin. With each seed she planted, she could practically see the pumpkins already sprouting—bright, orange, and perfect, ready to bring in families from all around for hayrides, pumpkin carvings, and seasonal festivals.
The ducks waddled over, quacking words of support, because, naturally, they were Bliss’s biggest cheerleaders. “Keep going! You’ve got this! Never give up!” they quacked as they marched through the field in perfect formation.
Bliss smiled. It was hard work, sure. The sun was relentless, and her hands were blistered, but she knew this pumpkin patch was going to be the best in the state. Maybe even the world!
By the time the last seed was planted and the irrigation ditches were dug (manually, mind you, because that broken tractor wasn’t going to fix itself), Bliss, Serena, and Cuddy stood back to admire their handiwork. Rows upon rows of pumpkin seeds, neatly planted and ready to grow. It was a sight to behold—a promise of future success.
As for Dick? Well, Dick was still under that tree, snoring away, completely oblivious to the work and the success blossoming all around him. Every now and then, the crows—formerly his precious chickens—swooped down and pecked at him, squawking jokes like, “Hey Dick! What’s the difference between a jackass and a pumpkin? The pumpkin’s useful!” He swatted at them in his sleep, but they were always just out of reach, laughing their crow-cackles all the while.
Bliss wiped her hands on her overalls, smiling at the field. “Pumpkins are coming, Serena. And when they do, this farm will finally be what we dreamed of.” She gave the little sheep a pat on the head, and together they walked back to the house.
As they passed by the still-snoring Dick, Serena giggled. “He’s going to be so surprised when we pull this off.”
Bliss chuckled. “Surprised? More like confused. But hey, some people are just meant to watch from the sidelines while the rest of us make magic happen.”
And just like that, the Funny Farm was one step closer to success, with Bliss always on top.
When life gives you seeds that suddenly disappear,
Don’t you worry, don’t you fear.
Buy more, dig deep, and plant them strong,
Success will follow, it won’t take long!
And as for the lazy ones lounging in shade,
You’ll leave them behind with the progress you’ve made.
When the sun beats down and the work is tough,
Just remember you’ve got the right stuff!
Blisters and sweat will lead to the prize,
And soon you’ll see success in your eyes.
Let the lazy ones nap, while you take the lead,
Your hard work will always plant the right seed!
“The Power of Persistence: How to Keep Going When Obstacles Stand in Your Way”
In life, there will always be people or circumstances that seem determined to stand in the way of your success. Whether it’s someone like Dick, who actively sabotages your efforts, or simple setbacks like lost seeds and broken equipment, the key to moving forward is persistence.
Here’s how to keep going when obstacles try to slow you down:
- Refocus on the Goal: Just like Bliss never lost sight of her dream for a successful pumpkin patch, keeping your eyes on the bigger picture will help you push through temporary setbacks.
- Find a New Way Forward: When Bliss’s seeds disappeared, she didn’t stop to wallow in frustration. She immediately found another way to get what she needed. Flexibility is key when faced with challenges.
- Rely on Your Support System: Surround yourself with positive influences like Serena, Cuddy, and those cheering you on (like Bliss’s ducks!). They’ll lift you up when the going gets tough.
- Celebrate Every Victory: Planting 1,500 pumpkins by hand might seem like hard work, but Bliss took the time to stand back and appreciate what she had accomplished. Don’t forget to celebrate the progress you’ve made, even if there’s still a long way to go.
Life is about growth, and growth takes time. Whether you’re planting pumpkins or working toward a personal goal, stay persistent. Every small step brings you closer to the success you’re working toward.
